OneTESS

Basic MILES allowed soldiers and combat vehicles to “kill” and “be killed.” It had limited engagement range, did not track player identification and was heavy. It also did not facilitate indirect-fire training. MILES 2000 was developed in the late 1990s as a replacement for basic MILES. It was a significant improvement in performance and sustainment. The system proved to be a solid training solution for the training environment as it was fielded to several Army installations, including Fort Stewart, Fort Lewis and Fort Polk, as well as to the Marines.

PEO STRI needed to develop a strategy that allowed MILES to evolve by leveraging the technology and architecture developed by the OneTESS program—the Army’s next generation tactical engagement simulation system. The strategy would require a systems integration approach to obtain the best components, a systematic technology insertion approach, a single TESS architecture to allow modular, plug-and-play components, and a more robust sustainment strategy that synchronized the efforts of production, engineering and logistics.

Icon is supporting this strategy by providing engineering and manufacturing services for the man-worn and vehicle systems.
